Join us for our monthly potluck with a special guest, author R.K. Fitten!

After everyone has a chance to get some food, Ron will read from his novel, The March. This book is a gripping, thought-provoking novel that explores the capacity of one person, committed to love, authenticity, genuine human connection, and social justice to transform her life and the lives of everyone around her.

Helpful things to bring:

  • A dish to share. vegetarian options are always appreciated! Our optional theme this month is “Italian favorites”.
  • Ingredients list. known community allergies: fresh watermelon, fresh cucumber, peanuts, mushrooms, gluten, strawberries
  • Reusable plates & utensils for personal use (we will have paper and plastic options available)

Speaker bio: R.K. Fitten is an award-winning journalist, who has done extensive reporting across the country, specializing in criminal justice and social issues. He also has considerable experience in sales, and market and public opinion research.

The native Detroiter earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, spent a year as a Journalism Fellow at the University of Michigan, and received an Advanced Writing certification from the University of Washington. He has been the recipient of multiple feature and news-writing-reporting awards, including the Washington State Governor’s Journalism Award.

One of his former employers, The Seattle Times, nominated a body of his work for a Pulitzer Prize.

The March, which he characterizes as art imitating life, is his debut novel. A second novel, Music Rain, will be released in the fall of 2026.

The pandemic, Fitten revealed, compelled him to embark on a “dark night of the soul writing sojourn” in which he completed three novels in three years. And he expects to continue that writing sojourn until he “transitions to the land of stars.”

Wichita Oasis is a non-religious community for people to come together to connect, be inspired, and feel empowered. We meet weekly on Sunday mornings and programming may include featured speakers, live local musicians, potlucks, service projects, game days, and more. The program starts at 11:00 AM, and people are encouraged to come half an hour earlier for coffee, snacks, and conversation.

Kid's Room. Two experienced and background-checked adults are ready to help make your child's experience at Wichita Oasis as fun and engaging as the main program.

Extension Room. For older kids and adults who don't require supervision but are not interested in the main program, the Extension Room offers a separate space to connect, play, create, and explore. Two background-checked adults will be there hanging out, so you'll never be alone. Feel free to bring a game, craft, book, or other activity to enjoy by yourself or with others.
