Speaker Bio: Laura Rainwater, Sedgwick County Election Commissioner, was appointed to the position in March 2023 by Kansas Secretary of State, Scott Schwab. Prior to her appointment, she was executive director of the Regional Economic Area Partnership (REAP), Sedgwick County Association of Cities (SCAC) and the K254 Corridor Development Association. She also served as Director of Administrative Services for the Workforce Alliance of South Central Kansas. She has been a supervising judge for elections since 2019. 

With over fifteen years of experience in government and community relations, Laura’s background is diverse and extensive. Working with multiple agencies and departments at the city, county, and federal level, she has established strong working relationships with private industry leaders and public policy makers in an effort to bring regional collaboration to the forefront to promote economic efficiency and sustained growth for the area.

Laura serves in several community leadership positions. She is the past chair of the Board of Directors for the Mental Health Association and the Wichita Parks Foundation. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Coalition.

A lifelong resident of Sedgwick County, Laura graduated from Southeast High School and continued her education at the University of Kansas (KU) and Wichita State University (WSU). She graduated from WSU with a degree in Business Management and is a graduate of the MiniMPA program through the Hugo Wall School of Public Affairs. She also received the Certified Public Manager certification through KU.

Laura, and her husband, Cory, have a blended family with six children, five beautiful granddaughters and granddaughter number six due in May and her first grandson due in September! She is an avid sports fan, especially WSU and KU basketball and the Kansas City Chiefs! In her spare time, she can often be found on the golf course.

About Oasis. Oasis is a place for the non-religious to come together to celebrate the human experience. We are a secular community that meets weekly on Sunday mornings to enjoy fascinating talks, live music, and friendship. The program starts at 11:00 AM, and people are encouraged to come half an hour earlier for coffee, snacks, and conversation. If it's your first time visiting, make sure to stop by our welcome table to say hello. 

Kids Room. Oasis is focused on families, and we provide our children with engaging and fun activities during Sunday gatherings overseen by a paid, background-checked staff. Parents can drop off their young ones with our team in the kids room, where they will meet new friends and enjoy fun activities together. Along with the kids' room at weekly Sunday gatherings, Oasis provides a network of support for parents and children to grow up in a framework of compassion, critical thinking and dogma-free education.
